Inconsistencies and disconnects

A content analysis of state curriculum standards in 10 states were performed in 2004 to measure and understand the value states place on information and communication technology (ICT) literacy. The survey included questions on the 20 skills, and the demographic information and technology access. A lack of ICT skills inhibits the abilities of the person to perform valid research and information analysis, and communicate ideas effectively. The survey showed that majority of high school graduates throughout the US lack the skills necessary to succeed in both school and the workplace, and they also lack the higher-order thinking skills. The students also found difficulty in communicating electronically, including sending emails, attaching documents to email message, and using application program. There must be an agreement among educators, business, and government leaders on the definition of ICT literacy and the ways to produce an ICT literate individual.
