Abstract
A systematic assessment of patients with persistent diarrhea can demonstrate a specific pathogen in up to 85% of cases. This article expands the differential diagnosis in patients with chronic diarrhea and AIDS and reviews diagnostic strategies, with emphasis on the role of endoscopic biopsies and special stains.
