N2 - Visitor counts, while critical for tourism management, are plagued by methodological complexities that negatively impact reliability, particularly at sites with porous boundaries. The purpose of this study is to advance the understanding of visitor counting techniques by analyzing the accuracy challenges specific to infrared sensors installed in outdoor settings. University researchers tested the reliability of infrared counters installed in four diverse locales. Factors that influenced accuracy included sensor location, extraneous devices, entrance modalities, and technology failure. The results confirm the necessity of onsite validations and data algorithms, as adjustments resulted in significantly improved accuracy.
