Inhalation injury related to use of petrolatum-based hair grease

Abstract

Petrolatum-based hair products were associated with face and scalp burns in five patients. Four of these patients had inhalation injury and two required intubation for acute upper airway obstruction. Users of these products and their physicians should be aware of this major hazard.
