Abstract

Bare Machine or Bare PC applications communicate directly to the hardware without using a conventional operating system (OS) and by managing their own resources during execution. Bare PC Web servers, email servers, and VoIP softphones have been shown to perform better than their conventional OS-based counterparts. This paper presents insights into bare PC Web server architecture, design, and performance. It provides new experimental results for connection and response times, maximum queue size, and bare PC Web server CPU task utilization at different request rates, and also analyzes these results. These insights and results together provide a better understanding of bare PC Web server performance and task behavior.
