Abstract
Decisions involving transportation are critical to inventory management. Practical ways to integrate transportation cost, speed, and reliability into a continuous review inventory system are demonstrated for a setting that encompasses a single supply source, an independent-demand item, and uncertainty in demand and lead time. The solution simultaneously optimizes how much and when to order to achieve a fill-rate target.
