Abstract

The alveoli, conductive airways, and blood vessels of the lung are surrounded by the pulmonary interstitium. Diseases involving the interstitium have a different radiographic appearance from airspace diseases. Etiology of interstitial diseases can also be acute or chronic. Understanding the anatomy of the interstitium will aid the recognition of interstitial processes on a radiograph.
