The motion coordination of multiple vehicles has been increasingly considered in the last decade due to the wide range of applications and advantages resulted from using a team of autonomous vehicles in a specified mission. This chapter presents an overview of coordinated motion approaches for unmanned-vehicle systems. It also presents our motivations in considering a team of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and gives a literature review on the topics addressed in the Book. Indeed, the attitude synchronization of rigid-body systems and the formation control of vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) UAVs stand as two problems presenting several challenges in terms of control design both from the theoretical and practical viewpoints. Finally, a detailed outline of the book is given.
