Abstract

This book explores translingualism as a critical framework to decolonize academic writing and disrupt the dominance of English as the academic lingua franca. The authors advocate for a gradual and strategic shift in academic conventions, embracing translingual practices to empower diverse linguistic and cultural expressions. By integrating translingualism and translanguaging, this work challenges monoglossic ideologies, foregrounding minoritized ways of knowing and writing. The chapters in this book demonstrate how multilingual scholars employ innovative strategies to pluralize academic discourse while navigating institutional constraints. Ultimately, this book aims to inspire scholars to embrace their linguistic diversity, fostering more equitable and inclusive scholarly communication.
