A large consortium of several centers specializing in the care of children with renal insufficiency is required to encompass a long-term, systematic evaluation of several components, including height, weight, and nutritional intake, to yield statistically valid generalizations in a timely fashion. To answer these important questions, we formed this collaborative study in 1983 and successfully competed for funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).",
