N1 - Funding Information: The 2008 Intersociety Research Workshop: Nutrition and Inflammation: Research Makes the Connection, was supported by grant number U13DK064190 from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. The content is solely the responsibility of the authors and does not necessarily represent the official view of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases or the National Institutes of Health. Funding Information: The Intersociety Research Workshop on Nutrition and Inflammation, held February 8-9, 2008, in Chicago, Illinois, was conceived more than 2 years ago and encompassed the contributions of multiple individuals and the professional societies that they represented. The original Intersociety Research Planning Group convened in 2005 and included Kelly Tappenden, Esther Myers, David August, Phyllis Bowen, Steven Heymsfield, Tom Ziegler, Julie O'Sullivan Maillet, and Benjamin Caballero. Kelly Tappenden was principal investigator, and Esther Myers was coinvestigator for the successful National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant application titled “Intersociety Nutrition Research Workshop,” which laid the foundation for this program. The Research Workshop was sponsored by the American Dietetic Association, the American Society for Nutrition, the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, and the Obesity Society. It was supported in part by the NIH grants 5 U13DK064190 and 1 R13DK075229. The vision was to bring together basic and applied investigators with interest in nutrition and inflammation to present new findings, to exchange ideas, and to help formulate a future research agenda. The workshop that resulted is a tribute to the dedicated and enthusiastic support of many unnamed colleagues.
