Abstract
This chapter introduces Section 2, which discusses the current policy and industry initiatives for reducing embodied carbon in different regions of the world. This is, we believe, a unique contribution to knowledge, revealing the real-world transitions that are under way at this unique point in time across multiple different nations, as we collectively grow to realise the critical need to reduce emissions from construction. As identified in the first chapter of the section, this is indeed a ‘paradigm shift’ in our thinking - it remains to be seen whether the shift will be revolutionary enough to keep the climate from changing beyond recognition.
