Abstract

The structure-property relation of (1-x)Bi(Mg 1/2Ti 1/2)O 3- (x)PbTiO 3 (BMT-PT) polycrystalline ceramics were investigated for potential as piezoelectric system. It was found that (1-x) BMT-XPT is a ferroelectric solid solution with perovskite structure that exhibits high-temperature piezoelectric properties. It was also found that piezoelectric coefficients are lower than those in BS-PT at room temperature and coercive fields are extremely high. The results sugggest that BMT-PT piezoelectric ceramics offer advantages such as higher temperature applications with higher piezoelectric activity that the modified lead metaniobates.
