title = "Investigations in the use of clinical algorithms to organize medical knowledge",
abstract = "Clinical algorithms can concisely portray the often complex branching structure of diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Though frequently used to present expert opinion regarding specific problems, algorithms suffer a number of limitations when restricted to a state medium. Some ways in which computer presentation might overcome these limitations are investigated, and techniques for handling some of the challenges encountered in adapting printed algorithms to computer display are developed. Based in part on this work it is believed that clinical algorithms could play a useful role in decision support and context-sensitive knowledge retrieval.",
