Abstract

Reports on safety issues relating to the Internet of Things (IoT). Users, developers, managers, and other stakeholders are concerned that the heterogeneity and complexity of this technology, essentially composed of systems of systems, may open the door to security breaches on an unprecedented scale. There is, however, another important system property, which is not very often brought up as an imminent concern, but is equally important. This is device safety, the violation of which may cause severe harm to the environment in which the device operates.
