Abstract
The aim of our study is to study the elimination of CsA by an assessment of its concentration in bile in relation to hepatic function, bile production, and the influence of other factors such as hepatic ischemia, phenytoin, and retransplantation. The rate of elimination of CsA in bile depends on hepatic function and the amount of bile produced. Sharp peak and trough levels of CsA in bile were not found as seen in blood or serum levels. However, when phenytoin is used, a marked increase in metabolism of the drug with both increase in parent compound and metabolites was noticed. Similarly, retransplant patients who were already on CsA before seem to reach their peak level in bile fairly soon.
