Abstract

With an aging American population, patient complexity is increasing because of multiple chronic conditions. Multiple chronic conditions are associated with health care costs, utilization, and poor functional status. Superficial bladder cancer predominates in the elderly and can be considered a chronic condition in its own right because of frequent surveillance and treatment. A patient-centered approach for superficial bladder cancer is needed that takes into account competing risks from chronic conditions, functional status, and patient preferences in the elderly.
