Abstract
A smeared laminate displacement model is presented for the static analysis of simply supported composite beams under transverse load. The model is based on an assumed displacement field that is improved successively through iteration. The updated displacement field is determined from the stress distribution calculated in the previous iteration. Solutions obtained using the iterative approach agree with exact solutions derived from 2-D elasticity theory.
