Abstract

The concentration decreases with coke conversion because of vaporization of KCN. Gasification also leads to chemical changes in KCN. A melt containing K, O, C, and N is formed which on cooling results in the formation of KCN, KOCN, and K//2CO//3. The specific surface area of coke decreases on doping with KCN because of pore plugging. However, the surface area of coke with or without the KCN addition increases as gasification progresses. At low KCN loading the instantaneous gasification rate is strongly influenced by concentration of K in the pellet. Both the partial pressures of CO and COD2 significantly influence the extent of catalysis of the coke-CO//2 reaction.
