Abstract
We have determined the Kosterlitz-Thouless transition temperature TKT and the mean-field transition temperature Tco in ultrathin YBa2Cu3O7-x, insulated by intervening layers of PrBa2Cu3O7-x. Tco is lower, and τKT = (Tco- TKT)/Tco is larger up to an order of magnitude than in thicker films or single crystals, showing that 2D-behavior is approached more closely in the multilayers, and, conversely, that in the bulk the behavior is at least partially three-dimensional.
