Labor in Michigan in 2024

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Unions played an important role in the 2024 presidential election in Michigan. The United Auto Workers occupied centerstage, in both policy disputes and a personal feud between its president and Donald Trump. Both parties devoted significant resources to get out the vote in Michigan and other battleground states. Controversy over electric vehicle mandates rose prominently in Michigan. Trump's campaign overcame intense opposition to win each of the battleground states. The union vote was a majority for Harris, but less than Biden's in 2020. Labor's declining position in the workforce eroded its potential import in elections.
