Abstract

The research described in this paper discusses the development of a heated transition boundary layer facility and investigates the behavior in the transition region when boundary layer heating is used to promote laminar flow. An open channel facility, with a heated bottom plate is used so that there will be complete freedom of access for boundary layer probes. A transition from laminar to turbulent boundary layer flow is established on an unheated plate and then as heat is applied the intermittency and burst rate is studied within the transition region.
