Abstract

The development of large aperture scanning lidar using holographic optical elements (HOE) was presented. The lidar was developed to reduce the size, mass, angular momentum and cost of scanning. This lidar was based on a reflection HOE for use at the doubled Nd:YAG laser wavelength of 532 nm. The technology enabled wide-angle scanning and three-dimensional measurements of atmospheric backscatter when used in airborne instruments. The lidar also enabled high temporal resolution observations of atmospheric dynamic structure.
