Abstract

This article explains that the topic of 'regulation of lawyers' can be difficult to research because of jurisdictional differences in the meaning of the term lawyer and because of differences in the sources and types of lawyer regulation and differences in the reserved activities for which one needs to be a licensed lawyer. Although there is no centralized source that identifies lawyer regulators in different jurisdictions or the content of that regulation, this article identifies resources that can be useful when researching lawyer regulation. The article also identifies current issues and changes that have occurred in lawyer regulation.
