Abstract
The character legibility of a large-screen light-valve display system was evaluated under medium ambient illumination, at a range of viewing distances and from the worst-case viewing angle. This system is proposed for use in a military C**3 (command-control-communications) environment. The study was conducted in a low-to-medium level of nonglare overhead illumination (1. 30 to 54. 35 foot-candles, or 14 to 585 lux), in order to approximate the ambient conditions of the application environment. Experimental variables were also chosen for this purpose.
