Lessons from broadband development in Canada, Japan, Korea and the United States

The development of broadband networks in Canada, Japan and Korea and the United States despite different geographical, political and marketplace conditions is discussed. It is found that the tremendous growth of broadband networks has led cable television operators and local exchange to pursue these markets aggresively. The incumbents should limit capital investments in broadband to determine the credibility excuses based on regulatory risk and uncertainty. It is suggested that the national governments should also expedite broadband infrastructure development.
