Abstract
The adhesion of human neutrophils and monocytes on materials coated with a variety of extracellular matrix or coagulation proteins under static or mechanically strained conditions was evaluated. It was shown that some extracellular matrix proteins and coagulation proteins have antiadhesive properties for leukocytes. Type V collagen and both single chain and double chain forms of high molecular weight kininogen (HMWK) inhibited endothelial cell adhesion and growth. Most cell types were prevented from adhering to a great extent by HMWK. SC HMWK also showed antiadhesive properties for neutrophils. Cell adhesion was not affected considerably by cyclic strain.
