Abstract
This book chapter explores how Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ ML) methods are revolutionizing logistics operations, leading to enhanced efficiency, cost savings, and customer satisfaction. Based on a review of AI/ML literature and in-depth case studies of industry leaders like Amazon, C.H. Robinson, DHL, and the Port of Rotterdam, this chapter unveils how strategic leveraging of AI/ ML can provide a competitive advantage. In addition to reviewing applications in large enterprises, we also discuss the opportunities and benefits for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), including practical strategies for incremental AI adoption and subscription-based tools. The chapter analyzes the key challenges and opportunities associated with AI/ML adoption, delves into ethical considerations and sustainability implications, and provides practical strategies for logistics and supply chain leaders to successfully integrate these technologies into their operations, ultimately boosting their bottom line.
