Abstract
Far-off-resonant light traps (FORT) were used for knowing the loading and compressing Cs atoms. 3×107 Cs atoms were loaded into a 400 μm crossed beam far-off-resonant trap (FORT). Atoms in the FORT were compressed to a spatial density of 2×1013 atoms/cm3, and spontaneous emission in the FORT was negligible.
