Abstract
We report the presence of an unexpected asymmetry in the local electromechanical response across a single ferroelectric domain wall in congruent lithium niobate at room temperature. We provide evidence that this is related to the presence of nonstoichiometric defects in the crystal, which interact with the domain wall.
