Abstract
LionGlass is Penn State University's ptent-pending family of glass compositions, which we believe shows promise as a lower carbon footprint, more environmentally friendly glass composition over soda-lime glass. Here we give an overview on the thermodynamic approach for optimising liquidus temperature in novel glass families and how we applied it to make LionGlass more resistant to devitrification. We also discuss the results of our recent small-scale pilot trial with Bormioli Luigi, which demonstrated that the new LionGlass composition can be melted in large quantities and formed into vessels.
