Abstract

The synthetic method used here to prepare smart materials utilizes simple solution chemistry to give a high degree of chemical control and reproducibility. Smart materials such as Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 (PMN) and 0.9Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-0.1PbTiO3 (PMN-PT) were prepared as bulk ceramics and thin films using solgel process. The importance of wet chemical method with respect to the properties of materials in device applications is highlighted.
