Abstract

(Na0.5K0.5)NbO3 ceramics require sintering below 1,000°C to avoid the problem of Na-volatilization which results in lower resistivity. In this study we report the effect of CuO on the sintering behavior of (Na0.5K0.5)NbO3 ceramics. It was found that (Na0.5K 0.5)NbO3+ 1.5 mol% CuO ceramics sintered at 950°C for 2 hr exhibit excellent piezoelectric properties of d33 = 100 pC/N, kp = 0.36, and Qm = 1200. The remanent polarization and coercive field of this composition were of the order of 21.94 μ C/cm2 and 1.2 kV/mm. These results are very promising for the hard lead free piezoelectric ceramics.
