Abstract

A numerical model for keyhole mode laser beam welding was developed. Macroporosity was formed in the mixed mode of welding due to the instability of the keyhole. The model was used to predict the mode of welding, the keyhole geometry and weldment temperature field for the laser welding of aluminium alloys.
