Abstract
This paper provides an overview to the special issue of Cognition and Emotion devoted to Magda B. Arnold's (1903-2002) contributions to the psychology of human emotion. Contributors provide insight into the intellectual forebears and theoretical scope of Arnold's emotion theory, and the interconnections of Arnold's theories and contemporary trends in research on emotion, motivation, and social neuroscience. A biography of Arnold places her work and life in the context of her times.
