Abstract
The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) and DARPA have launched a major initiative to develop revolutionary new software-enabled control (SEC) systems for intelligent unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). The SEC program is charged with making these machines more reliable, robust, autonomous, and agile, thus helping them avoid actions without exceeding critical flight parameters. One of the software, the Open Control Platform (OCP), provides common middleware services that facilitate development, integration, and testing of control technology on single or multiple processors. The GTMax research UAV system is a highly effective research vehicle with simulation tools that allow researchers to develop algorithms and software on their own computers.
