Abstract
Damage control laparotomy and the management of an open abdomen are important concepts for general surgeons. The surgical management of the open abdomen and, subsequent definitive closure, is complex. This chapter provides a decision-making algorithm to identify the appropriate closure/management technique with respect to patient-specific conditions.
