Abstract

Diagenetic alteration of petrophysical properties in a reservoir is an important aspect that has significant implication on the ultimate productivity of the reservoir. This impact is even more significant for carbonate reservoirs. We present a comprehensive analysis of disparate data types, namely, seismic, well log and cores for a carbonate reservoir in the Gulf of Mexico. Various facies and different fracture networks mostly characterize this reservoir. One of the important producing zones is the Cretaceous breccia facies mainly composed of dolomite breccias. Prior interpretations reported that the breccia formations were deposited in a ramp type carbonate platform and tectonic activities yielded fracture networks. Our analysis involved probabilistic integration of results from seismic inversion with cores and well logs resulting in probabilistic maps of reservoir regions that are likely to have been altered diagenetically. Several realizations of the diagenesis indicator maps were generated conditioned to both the well locations and the seismic AI data Our results indicate that the data integration results in robust mapping of reservoir regions altered by diagenesis.
