Abstract
The frequency-dependent complex conductivity of electrons in sapphire over a temperature range of 40-300 K was measured by means of THz time-domain spectroscopy. The frequency dependence of the conductivity was found to correspond to that predicted by the Drude model. The temperature dependence of the inferred scattering rates agreed with the Matthiessen's law and is compatible with large-polaron theory.
