N2 - The research described constitutes the initial phase of an attempt to obtain the transient temperature and velocity distributions in ceiling jets above small fires (up to 2 KW). There appears to be no data for the transient velocity profiles in these jets and the existing temperature data is insufficient. Typical velocity and temperature profiles are presented. The authors present the temperature difference profiles at 1, 6 and 30 minutes after ignition of the methane. The temperature difference is the temperature minus the ambient air temperature. Each profile contains the average temperature differences over 2. 77 seconds. As time progressed, the profiles became flatter, and at the longest time, the temperature became higher at all locations.
