This work was supported in part by the US Department of Energy under grant DE-FGO2-9OER-40577, by the National Science Foundation, and by the Texas National Laboratory Research Commission. We would like to thank Bob Carlitz, Bob Jaffe and Xiang-Dong Ji for many conversations and for collaborating with us in the initial stages of this work. We would also like to thank Frank Paige, Jian-Wei Qiu, George Sterman and Mark Strikman for useful discussions, and Xavier Artru for pointing out an error in the calculation of Tqin the original draft of this paper. We would also like to thank Gary Goldstein for some conversations that clarified the possibility of measuring the polarization of the p-meson in fragmentation.

N2 - We show how the transverse polarization of a quark initiating a jet can be probed by the azimuthal distribution of two hadrons (of large z) in the jet. This permits a twist-2 asymmetry in hard processes when only one of the initial particles is polarized transversely. Applications to hadron-hadron and lepton-hadron scattering are discussed.
