Abstract
Recently, much attention has been given to flaw classification in ultrasonic research. The work presented in this paper deals with the application of reflector classification techniques (previously restricted to the laboratory and simple geometries) to practical and complex weld geometries. The study considered ten complex weld geometries. In total, 69 flaws were considered in 21 specimens. A feature-based methodology was applied to develop a simple data acquistion and analysis routine that is applicable for flaw classification in all ten geometrical configurations.
