Abstract

The process of methylation of biphenyl (BP) to 4-methylbiphenyl (4-MBP) over NH4F modified nanosized HZSM-5 catalysts at different temperatures was investigated. The reaction temperature has a great influence on the activity of unmodified nanosized HZSM-5 and the high conversion and the good stability were found at 450°C. the stability of catalyst is improved greatly with the increase of the NH4F loading and the calcination temperature, while the selectivity of 4-MBP increases slightly. The conversion of BP can keep constant for 10 hours when the catalyst is calcined at 500°C.
