Abstract

A computer algorithm was developed to identify individual sugarcane shoots within shoot clumps micropropagated between parallel plates. The system of growing shoots between parallel plates was developed to ease manual or automatic separation of micropropagated sugarcane shoots. Using machine vision, 79% of the shoots present were properly identified, and their coordinates found by the algorithm. Physical separation of the shoots from 10 clumps using coordinates found by the algorithm showed all of the shoots identified would be singulated using the algorithm and separation scheme considered.
