Abstract

Microstructural and microhardness characterizations were performed on alloy 2090-T8X (Al-2. 7 Cu-2. 2 Li-0. 12 Zr) weldments. These weldments were produced using 2319 (Al-6. 3 Cu), 4145 (Al-10. 0 Si-4. 0 Cu), and 4047 (Al-12. 0 Si) filler alloys. Minor variations in the fusion zone microstructure were apparent; however, this was attributed to filler alloy compositions. Microstructural and microhardness characterizations of the heat affected zone indicate that dissolution of the strengthening phases was the dominant modification.
