Abstract

This paper summarizes the research activity within the Mid-America Earthquake (MAE) Center in the context of the development of improved earthquake hazard mitigation strategies on a regional basis. The MAE Center research encompasses a broad range of topics related to consequence-based risk management (CRM). The overarching themes within the MAE Center are presented, followed by summaries of each of the main research thrusts, including CRM Framework, Hazard Definition, Engineering Engines, Social and Economic Sciences, and Information Technology. The primary results of the MAE Center are also discussed, including the development of MAEviz, a comprehensive software system for consequence-based loss assessment.
