Abstract

In order to minimize the numerical instability and numerical oscillation in solving coupled deformation-flow problems, this paper presents a few effective methodologies which include: (a) maintaining compatibility in magnitude for all coefficients in the system of equations through matrix normalization, (b) reducing the numerical oscillation due to local effect such as in the areas of load application through global finite element mesh refinement, and (c) increasing the time step magnitude.
