Abstract
Both the amorphous and crystalline phases of blends of PBT with poly(ester-ethers) were investigated. As hard segment concentration in the PEE copolymers increased, the blends changed from completely immiscible to miscible. The amorphous portion of blends containing copolymers with intermediate hard segment concentrations were found to be multiphase but some limited mixing in at least one of the phases is suspected. Blends with PEE containing less than 80 wt% hard segment were found to contain two crystal populations. Finally, in blends of PBT with PEE-80 through PEE-90, cocrystallization was concluded for quenched samples since only one crystal population was observed with DSC and optical microscopy. However, isothermal crystallization gave rise to two crystal populations indicating that the cocrystallization process could be kinetically controlled.
