Abstract
The issues related to supporting secure wireless access to databases via public telecommunications infrastructure were discussed. A third generation (3G) network provides enough bandwidth to transmit photos and other large files securely to mobile and remote users. The four observations drawn from interviews, time diaries, observations, and ride-alongs, call logs, and unobtrusive traffic records. Participants are hopeful about the roles that mobile devices and wireless access can play in making their work life safer and also better enable them to perform their duties.
