Abstract
Recent theoretical and experimental results on the scattering of ultrasonic pulses from a single spherical cavity embedded in a metallic solid are reviewed. Except at high frequencies, the data are in reasonable agreement with theory-bearing out the notable features predicted for the angular dependence and mode conversion between longitudinal and transverse waves. Methods were developed of calculating the high frequency results by synthesizing the scattered wave packet out of each of the frequencies making up the incident pulse. In this context the angular dependence of the scattered r. f. waveform and its Fourier transform are also discussed.
